Il progetto Casa Senza Nonna è un lavoro fotografico di Valentina Merzi. L’artista ha passato un lungo periodo studiando un luogo per lei davvero speciale, la casa dei suoi nonni paterni. Dopo la morte del nonno e il ricovero in ospedale della nonna, la casa resta disabitata ma immutata grazie alle cure del padre e dello zio di Valentina che hanno continuato ad arieggiarla e a curarne l’orto e le vigne. Di questo rituale sospeso nel tempo, gli unici testimoni sono gli oggetti. I vasetti di ceramica smaltati, le madonnine portate da Lourdes, le tazzine buone impilate nella credenza e i centrini sopravvivono alle persone creando il vero paesaggio visivo di un’esistenza. Il centrino tondo si colloca esattamente al centro del foro circolare sulla copertina del libro e diventa un mandala che, come un tema ricorrente, ritorna sia nei testi che nelle fotografie. Una riflessione sulla sacralità degli oggetti che diventano sia soggetti protagonisti che narratori, proprio come questo libro.

Casa Senza Nonna is a photographic work created by Valentina Merzi. The artist spent a long time studying a peculiar place, her paternal grandparents’ house. After her grandfather’s passing and her grandmother’s hospital admission, her father and uncle took care of the house, the garden and the vineyard. Nevertheless, the house was frozen in time. This ritual creates a pause, a suspension of time, that turns everyday objects into witnesses. Enamel vases, Our Lady of Lourdes small statues, fine china on a sideboard shelf and doilies survive people and create the setting of an entire life. The round doily perfectly superimposes the round hole in the middle of the book cover and creates a mandala-like motif that characterizes texts and pictures. A reflection about the sacredness of those objects that are both characters and storytellers, as is the book itself.
